My Story

¡Hola! My name is Anthony Vela, and I am passionate about helping others connect with the beauty of the Spanish language and culture.

I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a degree in Spanish and am currently pursuing my master’s degree. As someone who is half Mexican but didn’t grow up speaking Spanish at home, I’ve experienced firsthand what it means to embrace a language later in life. My dad’s generation didn’t pass the language down to mine, but I’ve made it my mission to reclaim it—and to share it with others.

Learning Spanish has opened up incredible opportunities for me to connect with people, explore cultures, and travel. I’m working toward visiting all 21 Spanish-speaking countries and have already been fortunate to explore Peru, Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Chile, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. Each journey deepens my appreciation for the diversity and richness of the Spanish-speaking world.

As a tutor, I’m especially passionate about the linguistic side of languages—not just what words to use but how to pronounce them beautifully and confidently. I believe that learning a language is about more than memorizing grammar rules; it’s about truly communicating and connecting.
